Red Sea KH Coralline Gro 500ml

New Red Sea KH Coralline Gro 500ml

KH CORALLINE GRO SUPPLEMENT - Marine buffer supplement with trace elements that promote the development of Coralline Algae

Key Features:

  • KH Coralline Gro is a complex of carbonate buffers, potassium and trace elements such as iron formulated in the ratio taken up regularly by the coralline algae.
  • KH Coralline Gro should be used instead of regular buffer supplements such as (Red Sea’s Foundation™ KH/Alkalinity) during the cycling of all new marine aquariums and on an ongoing basis in fish-only or soft corals systems.
  • To promote coralline algae in fish only or soft coral aquariums the alkalinity needs to be maintained at approximately 3 meq/L (8.4 °dKH) and specific minor and trace elements need to be readily available.

General instructions for testing and supplementing

  • Before carrying out any water testing always check the salinity and make adjustments as necessary. If you have made adjustments to the water wait 10 minutes for the water parameters to stabilize
  • Test only with high resolution test kits such as Red Sea’s Marin Care KH Test Kit
  • Red Sea’s KH Coralline Gro supplement has a dosing chart based on treating 100 liters / 25 gallons of water. Estimate your total volume of water (aquarium & sump less volume of live rocks etc) to calculate the correct dosage for your system
  • Supplements should be added to the sump. If you do not have a sump, add the supplements slowly to an area with high water flow to prevent direct contact with the corals
  • To prevent stress to the corals the maximum daily change of alkalinity should be no more an 0.5 meq/l (1.4 dkh)
  • Ensure that the alkalinity is at optimal values and run the aquarium for 4 days at a stable salinity (compensate for evaporation daily) without adding any supplements. At the end of the 4 days test the alkalinity and calculate the “4 day dosage” to replenish back to the optimal levels. Add the “4 day dosage” to the system. Divide this “4 day dosage” by 4 and use as the daily dosage for the next week
  • After a week of adding the daily dosage, test the alkalinity and calculate the adjusting dosage of each supplement to replenish back to the optimal levels
  • If the adjusting dosage is significantly different from the previous daily dosage amend (increase/decrease) the daily dosage as appropriate
  • If the measured level is above the optimal level wait for the excess to be depleted before restarting the daily supplementation with the amended daily dosage
  • Continue testing alkalinity every week and make adjustments to the daily dosages as required. If you miss one or more days of supplementing add the complete amount that you have missed but do not exceed the maximum recommended daily increase

Q: How much live rock should I use?

A: The exact amount will vary with the type of rock you choose. As a rule, you should add 1 kg / 2.2lb of live rock per 10 liters / 2.6 gallons of tank volume and it should occupy at least forty percent of the tank volume. For the MAX 130 & 130D this means approximately 11kg / 24lb of average density live rock For the Max 250 you should aim for around 21kg / 46lbsThe exact amount will vary with the type of rock you choose. As a rule, you should add 1 kg / 2.2lb of live rock per 10 liters / 2.6 gallons of tank volume and it should occupy at least forty percent of the tank volume.

Q: Should I use substrate?

A: You can set up your reef tank with or without a substrate at the bottom. We recommend using substrate, ideally an Aragonite-based substrate as it helps keep the water chemistry balanced. As Aragonite dissolves slowly in water, it releases calcium ions and carbonates that help maintain proper pH and alkalinity for good coral growth. In an established tank, when the substrate matures, it takes on the characteristics of “live sand” inhabited by millions of microorganisms. These creatures promote a successful aquarium, aiding the biological filtration processes of nitrification, denitrification and the consumption/decomposition of uneaten food. The substrate also provides a natural habitat for small worms and crustaceans that help clean the tank from detritus and play a major role in the delicate ecosystem’s food chain.

Q: Can I add my additives to the freshwater top up tank?

A: We do not recommend adding anything but R/O water to the top up tank, any precipitation of chemicals could cause a blockage in the sensitive float valve.

Q: Can supplements be diluted or mixed together for use with dosing pump etc?

A: Apart from Reef Energy A&B, all supplements can be diluted. Reef Energy A&B can and should be mixed together immediately before use but cannot be kept mixed for more than a very short time. In general, the other RCP supplements should not be mixed together before use as this will cause undesirable reactions between the chemicals. The only exception to this rule is Reef Foundation A&C and Reef Colors B (calcium, magnesium and potassium) which will not have any adverse reactions if mixed together.
